How to Maintain Your Air Rifle: A Complete Care Guide

Your air rifle is a precision instrument. A few minutes of routine care keeps its accuracy, protects your investment and ensures trouble-free operation for years.

Clean the barrel regularly

Lead residue gradually degrades accuracy. Using a quality cleaning kit with a brass rod, phosphor bronze brush and patches, run 5-8 passes pushing residue out in a single direction. Never dry-fire a spring-piston air rifle - it can damage the piston seal.

Lubricate, but only what needs it

Spring-piston air rifles benefit from light lubrication on pivot pivots and sliding surfaces. Apply only airgun-specific oils in small amounts; excess oil migrates into the compression chamber and causes diesel effect, which reduces power and can harm seals.

Store it correctly

Store your airgun un-cocked in a dry, ventilated area with low humidity. A soft case protects the stock and finish, but always leave it unzipped enough to allow airflow. Add a desiccant sachet in humid regions.

Respect the law and your warranty

Keep your purchase documents, follow the manufacturer's warranty terms and only modify your airgun with authorised parts. Responsible storage and maintenance also matter for compliance with safe storage expectations.
